Celebrating 25 years

Looking back on our first 25 years.

Initially we met in a room at Broxton Park School for the first 8 years, until a decision was made to purchase the Provincial Government Liquor store on July 24, 1994. After extensive renovations, we held our first service on September 17, 1995 after a historic march from Broxton Park School.

(past and present)
Rev. John Wood
Originally a pastor at St. Andrews United Church, John established the Church we now know as Christian Fellowship Church in 1988.  After 10 years as pastor at CFC he resigned and moved to Nova Scotia where he presently resides
Rev. Laurence Weaver
Born in Vancouver and raised in Wales, God guided him through many life experiences and on August 22nd, 1979, on a PWA flight over the Okanagan, he asked God into his life. He had a 25 year engineering, commerce and teaching background when he

decided to retrain for the ministry. As an associate pastor at "Church on the Way" in Burnaby, he desired to be a full time pastor. After responding to our invitation he joined CFC along with his 3 lovely daughters and wife Sandra. His induction service was Sept 20, 1998. On November he baptized 18 people at one time.
He now resides in Wales and is the pastor at Duckpool Road Baptist Church in Newport

Dr. David L. Fisher
The Lord blessed us with our present pastor in the fall of 2005. Pastor Dr. David L. Fisher has been in full-time ministry since 1988 when he was ordained as a minister of the United Church of

Canada. He served churches in Normanís cove, NF.; Smithville, Ohio; Foam Lake, Sask. and Fredericton, N.B.. He graduated from Emmanuel College, Toronto with a Master of Divinity. He then graduated from Ashland Theological Seminary, Ohio with a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counselling. After further studies Pastor David graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary, Kentucky with a Doctor of Ministry in church leadership and biblical preaching. He is also a graduate of The Beeson Pastor Program. Melissa has a bachelor's degree in Religion. They have been married for 18 years. Dr. David L. Fisher honored us with his first sermon on November 6th, 2005. You can listen to recent messages by clicking on the "Resources" link and selecting "Sermons 2019"

    Rev. Dave Hammond
Through out the years, Dave, a truck driver and valued member of our congregation, stepped in as an interim minister on many occasions. Especially after Laurence resigned in 2004, while we searched for a new pastor.

He officially became associate pastor in 2007. Dave recently retired from his profession and also stepped down as associate Pastor, allowing him to enjoy his retirement years.

We embarked on a frenzy of fund raising events such as bake sales, garage sales, suppers, talent shows, choir presentations, teas and raffles to help raise cash for the renovations. Work parties were set up and many people helped with the building renovations.
The different stages of  renovations took place over a long period of time due to the shortage of funds for building materials and volunteer labor.

First Service in our new location - Sept 17, 1995

Construction volunteers, sitting in an area that is presently our prayer garden, take a well deserved lunch break and  a time of fellowship. We enjoyed this time in our past and even today the F in our name continues to be all about....

Our church building, which is approximately 11,000 square feet, use to be a provincially owned liquor store.  It is fully setup for the handicapped and is wheelchair accessible. Claiming such a building for the Lord is something we take great pleasure in. A real change in "Spirits".

We are a Christian Church, thus worshiping Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We believe that the Bible, including the Old and New Testament is the complete and accurate inspired word of God. John 3:16-17 puts it best when it says "16For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."
